YouTube Shorts Video Editor (Remote)
How I Write Podcast
How I Write is fast becoming the place where every great writer (from musicians, to filmmakers, to poets, to novelists) do their most in-depth interview about their writing process. It’s like the Charlie Rose Show, but for writers.
We’re off to a great start. The YouTube channel just crossed 100,000 subscribers. People like Sam Altman and Tim Ferriss have come on the show, and so have award-winning novelists like Amor Towles and Richard Powers. The show is working and it’s now time to take our growth to the moon.
We don’t just care about quality interviews. We care about making them beautiful too. To do this, we’re looking for an editor to join our team full-time and long term, supporting our growth strategy focused on Shorts.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Editing high-quality YouTube Shorts based on reference videos (watch one here).
- Implementing detailed and direct feedback provided by David and our team.
- Publishing three Shorts per week at the quality of an HBO documentary.
You’ll love this role if:
- You’re obsessed with YouTube podcasts and Shorts as a medium.
- You want to make YouTube videos that are as well-produced as the shows you see on HBO, Netflix, or Apple.
- You thrive on direct feedback and criticism, and don’t sugarcoat your opinions.
- Your project files are well-organized and easy to navigate.
- You watch a video where the editing isn’t on point and feel compelled to share your thoughts on how to improve it.
- You can tell stories and craft narratives that keep viewers hooked.
You’ll hate this role if:
- You want to copy the latest editing trend into every video and call it a day.
- You can’t take direction and feedback in your stride.
- You need frame-by-frame instructions for every edit.
- You exclusively use CapCut and don’t want to learn other tools
What you’ve probably done:
- Accumulated 4+ years of professional video editing experience.
- Built a portfolio of jaw-dropping short and long-form YouTube videos.
- Watch hundreds of movies & YouTube videos, and analyzed them obsessively.
- Mastered editing/motion tools such as Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
- Bonus Points for: Skills in sound design and color grading.
Seriously don’t apply if:
- Your portfolio is full of generic work that doesn’t match the quality and style of our channel.
- Your portfolio includes any videos with a KERCHING sound representing money.
- Anyone could ever accuse you of producing click bait.
- You’re looking for an easy side-gig.
- Your content would blend in on TikTok or YouTube. Generic won’t cut it here
