Annual Review Workshop
January 4th and 5th, 2020
Last year, Chris Sparks and I hosted a retreat with friends in upstate New York to honor the turn of the New Year.
I arrived at the retreat with a struggling business and confusion about what I was going to do next. At the time, I was unsuccessfully consulting for entrepreneurs who wanted to improve their content creation strategy. Through a series of conversations and personal reflections, I decided to move away from consulting and launch a product instead.
Three months later, I launched an online writing course called Write of Passage. Year one was a smashing success. This year, I taught almost 500 students from more than 40 countries. The course is a better match for my skillset than consulting ever was. Without the retreat, I wouldn’t have had the time and space to look myself and the eye and switch directions in my career.
An Annual Review is a chance to step back from the day-to-day details of your work and look at it from a bird’s eye view. Tiago and I will begin the weekend by showing you our Annual Review process. Then, you’ll have a chance to design your own.
Yes, you can run your own Annual Review without us. You can look through hundreds of online blog posts, borrow from your favorite writers, and spend hours creating a process before you begin to reap the benefits of it. Or, you can make things easy for yourself.
Tiago and I will help you start and finish your Annual Review in a single weekend. Best of all, you’ll work with a group of people who share your ambition and curiosity.
We’ve divided the weekend into four sections with clear start and end times. That way, you can start and finish your Annual Review in a single weekend. Tiago and I will also be available all weekend on Slack, where you’ll be able to contact us directly. You’ll have a combination of personal and group work time. That way, you can balance personal flow states with inspiring conversations, where you can borrow ideas that inspire you.
That way, you can find a state of flow and build upon the best ideas in the group. The live sessions will focus on group discussions, where Tiago and I will lead the group in planning and discussion. During the live creation sessions, the entire group will execute on their plans together and hold each other accountable.
The workshop will take place in five parts:
Live Session #1: 8 – 9:30am Pacific time on Saturday, January 4th.
Creation Session: #1: 6 – 7:30pm Pacific time on Saturday, January 4th.
Live Session #2: 8 – 9:30am Pacific time on Sunday, January 5th.
Creation Session #2: 6 – 7:30pm Pacific time on Sunday, January 5th.
Live Session #3: 7:30pm – 9pm Pacific time on Sunday, January 5th.
You will end the weekend with clear goals and an action plan for 2020. And if it’s anything like last year’s retreat, you’ll make some friends too.
